For this project I was inspired by Victorian sitting rooms. While I’m most familiar with Victorian settings to be more dark and eerie, I wanted to create a room like it would be current to the time and lived in. Though I did want to keep some of the darker tones throughout.
Asset Breakdown

I personally really enjoy the research part of projects, so I went down a bit of an antique sale website rabbit hole to find good furniture pieces. Some were easier to find than others, but I knew I had to make the heart chairs as soon as I saw them. Whilst I wanted the room to look currently lived in, I still wanted to add a few spooky touches here and there, so I took the opportunity to add some creepier art.
Materials

While doing my initial reference search I came across so many beautiful wallpapers, so I wanted to try to recreate some. I made the wallpaper textures in Photoshop and while in Unreal wanted to try to recreate a wall painting trend I was interested in at the time. The base color of the wall is a more satin or matte finish while stenciled details are high-gloss.

I also played around with some Mega Scan textures, and changed their color in Unreal to make multiple woods to use.
Sprite Sheet Effects

I wanted to try my hand at making some flames for the fireplace and candles using a sprite sheet. There is definitely room for improvement but it’s nice having something going on in a still room.
Wire Frames:

This project is an original concept, made over a span of ten weeks. I’m glad I made it modular, as it went through several redecorating and rearrangement sessions. While I feel like I can keep refining and adding elements, I’m happy where this project ended up in my short time frame.
